Sunday diners put £1,500 on a plate for ShelterBox

Thursday, January 29, 2009, 23:00

MORE than 100 diners sat down to Sunday lunch and helped to raise enough money to send three ShelterBoxes to disaster areas around the world.

The three-course community lunch organised by Exmoor Rotary Club was held in Bampton's Riverside Hall and enjoyed by 120 people. This was the fifth annual charity lunch which originally started in response to the tsunami in South East Asia.

This year's event raised £1,500 for the Cornwall-based charity ShelterBox which works across the globe sending small durable boxes containing tents, blankets, cooking equipment and other items for immediate disaster relief.

A continuous slide show of pictures taken within the last two years of ShelterBoxes in use in in more than 15 different countries in times of flood, earthquake, hurricanes, or human conflict, reminded everyone of the fantastic work done by the charity.

The meal was prepared, arranged and served by Rotary Club members. Most of the food and wine were subsidised by various suppliers. Exmoor Rotary have helped to buy 41 ShelterBoxes in the last five years..
