HOLD the front page! The Herald is the latest stylish star to hit the catwalk.

The newspaper made its fashion debut at the Face of Plymouth grand final on Friday after student Caroline Turner designed and produced a collection of stunning clothes, made from pages of The Herald.

The newspaper dresses and shorts looked sensational on the Plymouth Pavilions stage, modelled by ten of last year's finalists.

The unique catwalk display was the brainchild of hair stylists Utopia and showed off their creative talents with all manner of dos interwoven with newspaper.

"It looked absolutely amazing," said Mrs Turner who is a first year fashion student at Plymouth College of Art.

"I loved my designs, they were brilliant but seeing them on stage they were even better than my expectations."

It took the 33-year-old mature student around three weeks to complete the entire collection of clothes, using countless editions of The Herald.

"I know one of the pleated skirts needed six newspapers but some needed a lot more than that," said Mrs Turner.

The Lydford-based student signed up for the mammoth newspaper challenge after Utopia sent an email to students at Plymouth College of Art asking for help with the catwalk show.

"Kady at Utopia came up with the main idea of the dresses made from The Herald newspaper and head pieces with papier mache," she said.

"I've made a lot of things out of fabric but I've never done anything out of newspaper.

"I used the very paper itself for inspiration. I thought about what is normally done with paper; scrunching it up, shredding it, rolling it, making it into cones and doing the crossword and developed my ideas from this!

"It was really filthy because you get covered in newspaper ink but it was a really great medium to work with."

The mother-of-one embarked on her fashion course after deciding to have a career change. After working as an audiologist at Derriford Hospital for more than ten years, she took the plunge and signed up at art college.

"I've always liked arts and crafts and fashion and design and I felt I really wanted to do it," she said.

"It was a huge decision to make to give up my career but I am thrilled that I did."
