THREE people are to appear at court later this year to face drug possession charges.

The trio were arrested in April after a member of the public contacted police saying they could smell cannabis coming from a room at the Premier Inn hotel in Marsh Mills.

Officers arrested four people at the building and, following further searches at addresses around the city, seized a quantity of cash and suspected illegal drugs.

As a result of further investigation three people – two men and a woman – have now been charged by police and will appear at Plymouth Crown Court in December.

Christian Parry, 28 and from Cambridge Road, in Ford, has been charged with possession of the class A drug cocaine and will appear before magistrates on December 12.

Barry Hartshorn, 25 and from Holdsworth Street, in Pennycomequick, is also charged with possession of the class A drug cocaine.

He will appear at Plymouth Magistrates' Court on December 19.

Hartshorn will be joined on the same day at court by Melanie Watson, 26 and of no fixed address, who has been charged with possession of the class B drugs cannabis and mephedrone, commonly known as 'bubble'.

Police said a fourth person arrested as part of the probe has since been released with a caution.
