Show of pomposity worthy of an Oscar

I TOOK the time to see the live coverage of Plymouth City Council's latest council meeting and would urge readers to tune in. I watched for an hour on and off, any more and I would have needed medical treatment.

You will find the tedium of minutes being read etc, but among that is a revealing insight of just how this council behaves and it is in my opinion nothing less than scandalous. Instead of any healthy lively debate being had on the problems that blight this city, for example the chronic state of our roads, I was witness to a show of pomposity, arrogance and condescension, worthy of an Oscar.

Most notably this was coming from our leader Mr Evans, who took it upon himself to talk in a very patronising manner to a 'newbie' councillor it appears. He offered 'friendly' advice, yes the sort that gangsters give.

The 'newbie' councillor, whose name I didn't catch, was one of a few who was actually trying to say something worthwhile, God forbid! Can't have that in a council meeting, apparently the 'senior' members have a way of doing things!

There are some good councillors around, they are clearly in a minority, I can only wish them good luck, to encourage them to upset the apple cart and try to actually get some proper debate and action going, in the face of a number of characters who are clearly only concerned with scoring points against their opposite numbers, when they should only be concerned with the welfare of this city and its people.

I'm looking forward to the next enthralling episode!

“I couldn't agree more with Mr Munnery,it was a total farce and most embarrassing to watch.Mr Evans attitude towards the young chap he was berating was just awful.I also couldn't believe that having solved nothing in particular the Mayor announced at 4pm there was hot food ready so they better go whilst it is hot!!!!!!! That seemed to have a better response than some of the issues they tried to discuss!!! One councillor seemed more interested in using her laptop than anything that was being said.No doubt she was taking notes!!!!!
It was most entertaining yet so awful! Like Mr Munnery suggests I think all ratepayers should tune in!!!!!! It may also be an idea for all who attended to watch it back too!”

“How I agree with Stuart Munnery, there is a time and a place for passing on "friendly advice" - this was a case of Evans playing to the gallery.

I'm sorry, but we need new blood in our council - this crowd are just not up to it, witness the employment of assistants to aid our incompetent councillors.”
