AM I alone in thinking the post has gone to pot?

My son posted a Father's Day card on Wednesday June 13 at Bristol. By June 19 it still had not arrived.

I had cards from Wales, Milton Keynes and locally Lutton, Cornwood.

On asking the postman what to do, he said that once an item goes in the post box there's no way to trace it unless it's recorded delivery.

no call out fee and no fee to price a job its free,

Contact: 01752 781832

Valid until: Sunday, June 02 2013

We used to live at Leigham in the 1960s and had a post delivery at 7.30am and 11.30am. The postie came on a bike.

If this is progress, God help our children and grandchildren.

This has happened on several occasions – it's not a one-off.

A BRADLEY

Plymouth

"First thing I would ask is what is your sons writing like? I work for Royal Mail processing the post and the handwriting we come across is absolutely shocking!! No wonder half the mail does not get there on time. As well as badly hand written addresses, we see places in wrong counties, wrong towns and the odd blank postcard where no address has been given!"

If the writing was perfect then there would be no need of an MDEC centre. Because we the public have such terrible handwriting it is keeping hundreds of people employed at these MDEC places and as a result reducing the unemployment. Now theres a thought!!”

“Not only a poor service but a dishonest one to boot...a business in decline, it seems.”

“Although I can't complain when I post a 1st class letter almost at the end of the day, and it is delivered in Kent the next morning, I do wonder why another 1st class letter, posted before midday, took 5 days to get to Exmouth! Our post (in Plympton) used to be delivered between 7.30am and 8am. Now we're lucky if it arrives by 1pm.

I think the Post Office has too many sidelines now, ie: insurance, etc. It should have stuck to delivering mail, which it used to do well and could be relied upon, instead of splitting itself into so many different 'services'. 'Jack of all trades, master of none' now comes to mind.”

“Where's the problem? We receive two or three packets a week from John Lewis or Amazon and provided you order within working/dispatch hours they arrive in 98% of cases the next day.John Lewis delivery is usually free and Amazon Prime for a years unlimited deliveries is still only about £40. The only problem we have is with other mail order firms who sometimes insist on delivery to the card holders home address which on a weekday can mean having to organise redelivery on another day or having to collect from a local centre on an industrial estate but that is no worse than collecting mail and packets from Royal Mail at Pomphlett which is a real chore.”

“and it seems many post persons do not have the ability to be able to put post through the whole letterbox.....they seem to think leaving it stuck in the letter box is acceptable, so anybody walking past can see that you've had post and could easily go and pick it from the letterbox, not exactly good is it - after it frequently happening at my last address i did ring up and complain as it was so blatently obvious from the road, that was the one time i had a very polite lady who said it would be dealt with and apologised and said it is not allowed. it sounds petty but sometimes we all have post that has very important things contained within it, bank stuff or tax credits etc which all states alot of information about us, which would enable fraud, not only that new bank cards are sent through the post nowadays, imagine if that picked out of the letterbox by some no mark.”

“i am a postie of nearly 15 years and can tell you the service people are getting is awful.
we are expected to walk up to 5:30 hours a day 5 days a week and it is taking its toll,we just cant cope with the volume of mail(junk) and parcels we are supposed to deliver in the time allocated, so we take it back to the office and its just left there to stagnate till the next day and so on and so on.......

BUT a few years ago us posties went on strike to save your peoples service, and guess what most of you said get back to work you lazy so and so's,theres people out there who would love your job.its all down to saving money.
so dont say you wasn't warned.”
