The price of stupidity
WE'VE all done stupid things – but few will be able to match the sheer idiocy of Lee Bassett.
He was found dangling from the underside of a bridge over Gdynia Way after a prank he carried out for a bet went wrong and he was unable to climb back up. As prosecutor Will Rose said in court: "Spiderman, Mr Bassett is not."
So far so comical. But the bill for getting him down totted up to a little under £5,000.
Many people could be forgiven for feeling that this was a high price to pay and perhaps it would have been cheaper and a good deal more fun for the rest of us if Mr Bassett had been left there.

“The taxpayer wouldn't pay any more. I don't see where this figure of £5000 comes from. The emergency services cost the same whether they're out on a 'shout' or sat in the office; the cost of fuel being the only variable, but not £5000 worth.
Could someone explain this cost to me?”

“Isn't it the Mexican new year soon? I certainly hope so, because we now have our very own Pinata to get down! Entertainment for the masses and a saving for the Tax payers.”
