The new season started on Monday with a total entry of 52 pairs in the men's, ladies' and mixed doubles events.
There is an increase in the entry in the ladies' doubles league, which is now split into two divisions.
Long-term champions Liz Roe and Michelle Cooke are defending their title, with again the main challenge coming from Pat Hexter and Sue Gale.
There are two new partnerships – Lindsey Fear with Jenny Penny and Alice Anstee with Olga Rogers.
Ann Short and Wendy Sharland move down to Division Two, where their main opposition could come from Joan Williams and Chanelle Belcher or Linda Galpin and Libby Allman.
Only eight pairs have entered the mixed doubles and neither of the 2007/08 top pairs are competing, leaving Andrew Leigh and Annabel Norman as favourites.
Again, three divisions are needed for the men's doubles.
Division One contains some strong pairings with Phil Harbottle and Phil Ruse hoping to regain the title they won in 2006/07, with Neil Hunt and Mike Paskins and new pairing Umberto Fontinari and Tony Maestri also in the running.
Division Two has old favourites Andy Westlake and Ian Bollard along with Roger Wratten and Roy Barraclough included.
In Division Three, Peter Horgan makes a welcome return, partnered by Chris Eastwood.
