Astor B then crashed 9-1 to leaders GWR D and Stockton failed to score when Astor D lost 7-3 at Woolwell H (Kevin Buddell 3 and the doubles with Ollie Buddell). Woolwell G (Mark Ross 3) beat Woodland Fort B 7-3 with Anthony Chudley, up from Division Five, scoring a great 12-10, 11-9, 14-12 win over Steve Godbeer.
Woolwell B (Marketa Myskova 3) are 15 points clear in Division One after an 8-2 win over Woolwell A with Myskova inflicting a second defeat on Richard Marshall by 3-11, 15-13, 11-4, 3-11,11-5.
Woolwell E (Mike Griffiths 3) led GWR A 5-2 but only drew when Griffiths and Toby Mattacott from two games up were beaten 11-13, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4, 11-5 by Mark Weymouth and Martin Parnell.
Mike Briggs was on form for GWR B with a maximum and the doubles with Ian Roper as B & S Group B lost 6-4.
In Division Three, seven sets from John Smith and Sean Mills gave Woolwell I a win by 8-2 over Crafthole District C. Inter City C beat two player Crafthole District B 9-1 ironically losing the doubles when Ian Oxenham and Marion Collings beat Keith Phillips and Steve Smith 13-11, 10-12, 5-11, 11-8, 11-6.
There was a rare duck for Pete Leslie (Woodland Fort D) when Naval Stores A (Dave Wyatt 3) won by 7-3, although Leslie threw away a two-game lead when Richard Searle won 9-11, 8-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-8.
There was a rare maximum and the doubles from John Norsworthy (Astor E) in the 9-1 win at a weakened Trelawny B. James Lock (3) lacked support as visitors leaders Woodland Fort C won by 7-3 at Saltash. Ben Cunningham (3) and reserve Alice Phillips won one for Woolwell J, who lost 6-4 to Lee Mill.
Woodland Fort E (John Cobbledick 2) were a player short and Molyneaux Associates took full advantage to win by 8-2. Anthony Chudley, back with his own team Woolwell K, was their only scorer as Siblyback B won 7-3.
Siblyback B then found Trelawny C, with Nigel Aston and Dave Backholer winning seven sets, too good by 8-2. Leaders Crafthole District D (Josh Taylor 3) from 6-2 finally beat Astor F 6-4.
Another rare occurrence came from veteran Clive Marlow with a Division Six maximum for Woolwell N in the 8-2 win over Crafthole Methodists.
DIVISION A ladies champions Michelle Cooke and Liz Roe enjoyed a straight sets win over Helen Foote and Joan McGregor. It was their consistency at the vital game points that restricted their opponents to a miserly two games in a 6-0, 6-2, 6-0 victory.
By contrast, although Jean Smith and Liz Gill also lost in straight sets, they won 14 games in a match that could have gone either way as Jenny Penny and sub Trudi Rowe won 6-5 (8-6), 6-5 (7-1), 6-4.
Two Division B pairs are still unbeaten with Joan Williams and Chanelle Belcher beating Carol Lyons and Lisa Clifton 6-3, 6-1,6-1 and Joan Kelcey and Tania Belcher defeating Rosemary Green and Janice Hunt 6-0, 6-1, 6-3.
Mixed fortunes for Ron Cole and Rob Thomas in Division B of the men's doubles. After an excellent win against Andy Conroy and Kevin Thomas by 6-4, 6-3, 6-2, the pair found the power play from Andrew Leigh and Dan Stones too much in the windy conditions and were beaten 6-1, 6-2, 6-3.
Phil Tucker is playing a class above the rest and supported by the calm and effective play of sub Patrick Poon they remain unbeaten.
Opponents Andy Westlake and sub Neil Pearce could not make an impact in the first two sets, but dug in to take the third set as Tucker and Poon won 6-3, 6-3, 5-6.
Thirty-two games were needed to settle a marathon as Roy Barraclough and sub Duncan Neale showed determination and commitment to beat Nathan Whitfield and Richard Carowicz 6-5, 6-4, 5-6. Tony Cronin and Perry Bailey started slowly and were rarely in the match as Steve Morris and Dennis Mbu won 6-2, 6-3, 6-1.
There was an abrupt finish in Division A when Chris Williams and Paul Wardle beat Chris Price and Simon Danes. With Williams and Wardle leading 6-5, 6-3, Price was left without a partner when Danes did not want to play the third set.
Phil Harbottle and Phil Ruse have still to play in the same match and this week it was Harbottle and sub Richard Stafford who had to struggle in the last two sets to beat Umberto Fontinari and Tony Maestri 6-1, 6-5, 6-5.
David Gale and Ricky Palmer turned in an excellent performance to take a set off Neil Hunt and Mike Paskins, who won 6-1, 5-6, 6-3.
Although two sets went to tie breaks Alex Picot and Jason Vosper fell apart in the second set when defeated 6-5, 6-0, 5-6 by John Davies and Tim Randell. Jeremy Kevern and Matt Redshaw started their season well, having little difficulty in beating Max Goodison and Bart Dudley 6-1, 6-4, 6-3.
Time ran out in the Division C match at 6-4 to Chris Eastwood and sub John O'Gorman in the third set tie break, leaving Pat Pearman and John Putman winners by 6-5, 6-5, 5-5. The experienced pair of Chris Shorter and Ken McNess were just too good for Jake Daykin and David Pemberton by 6-2, 6-2, 6-4. Still no success for Bernard and Arnaud Lien, beaten 6-3, 6-1, 6-5 by Geoff Parlby and Phil Ticehurst.
