A FIRST maximum of the season from Brian Eales for Trelawny A plus three from Sue Yorke gave their team a 8-2 win over Woodland Fort D in Division Four.

Earlier, seven sets from Mike Gaylard and Jim Perkins led to another 8-2 victory against Inter City F.

Saltash returned to winning ways by 6-4 from 0-3 at Astor E, for whom reserve Nick May won two, including beating James Lock 11-3, 7-11, 11-9, 13-11. Second-placed Naval Stores A (Tony Powlesland 3 and the doubles with Dave Wyatt) defeated Trelawny B 8-2 .

Division Two success at last for Astor B, who defeated high-flying Woolwell H (Kevin Buddell 3) 6-4.

Dave Pellow (3) was in great form for Astor C. Although the A team won 6-4, Pellow outplayed John Sherlock by 11-7, 11-6, 11-6.

Sherlock bounced back with three, as did Glyn Price in the 8-2 win at Woodland Fort A.

Fort A (Brian Luscombe 3) then only drew with the B team. Five sets went to five games at Astor D, who beat Inter City A (Adrian Osborne 3) 6-4.

Woolwell K (Anthony Chudley 3) won their first Division Five match 6-4 at Astor F with Chudley coming from 2-0 down defeating Gerry Elliott 7-11, 5-11, 11-4, 12-10, 11-8. Molyneaux Associates remain unbeaten, as from 4-4 they beat Naval Stores B (Bob Steele 3) 6-4. GWR E (Colin Easton 3) are having a better season and go top after an 8-2 win over Trelawny C.

In Division One, Woolwell B have opened up a huge lead, with eight sets won in straight games in the 10-0 victory against GWR A.

GWR B (Ian Roper 3) in one of their best performances won 6-4 at Woolwell D. A John Griffiths' straight game maximum helped Woolwell C to defeat GWR C 6-4, but two more from Griffiths was not enough to prevent B & S Group B (Mike Hugh 3) winning 6-4.

Struggling Crafthole District A lost again as GWR C (Colin Mitchell 3) won 7-3.

In-form Division Three top team SWS won 8-2 at Crafthole District B with Jan Walaszkowki (3) not conceding a game and ending by winning a tight doubles with Bryn Ford against Ian Oxenham and Chris Stevens by 11-6, 8-11, 8-11, 11-5, 11-4.

Joe Mandl (3) was back on form as Siblyback A won 8-2 at Inter City D. Crafthole District C (Terry Metters 3) did well from 2-0 down to beat Inter City C 6-4.

John Smith and Laurie Harrison both won three singles and the doubles for Woolwell I and Inter City B respectively in 6-4 wins over Elburton and Inter City E. Dave Brenton (City B) conceded a set when aggravating a knee injury, but earlier defeated Nick Ball 11-7, 11-4, 11-7

Crafthole District E and Woolwell N remain 100 per cent in Division Six.

Crafthole won 10-0 at Woolwell P, but Woolwell N only just won 6-4 at Woolwell Extras (Stella Williams 3). Young Jordan Bone won his first set for Extras when, with Williams, he beat Kirsty Legge and Alice Phillips 11-8, 11-8, 9-11, 8-11, 11-7.

IN THE Men's Division A, Umberto Fontinari and Tony Maestri came good, finishing strongly to beat the hard hitting pair Matt Redshaw and Jeremy Kevern 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Phil Harbottle and Phil Ruse were together for the first time and comfortably beat Dave Gale and Ricky Palmer 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. Alex Picot and Jason Vosper have still to get to grips with the level of play in a higher division and were beaten 6-0, 6-2, 6-1 by Redshaw and Kevern and 6-1, 6-2, 6-0 by Chris Williams and Paul Wardle.

Lack of consistency and too many double faults proved costly for Nathan Whitfield and Richard Carowicz in Division B where they were beaten 6-5, 6-1, 6-5 by Andy Westlake and sub Graham Martin.

Failing to beat the time limit were Andy Conroy and Kevin Thomas in their 6-4, 6-5, 5-5 win over Tony Cronin and Perry Bailey. Dan Stones and Andrew Leigh could be the top pair, evident by their 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 win over Roy Barraclough and sub Duncan Neale.

A marathon match of three tie breaks resulted in Pat Pearmen and John Putman beating John Jacobs and Patrick Poon 5-6, 6-5, 6-5 in Division C.

By contrast, Ken McNess and Chris Shorter keep up their good form in allowing Pete Ryland and Richard Allman just six games in a 6-1, 6-2, 6-3 win.

Linda Galpin and Libby Alllman started their Division B matches with straight sets wins over Rosemary Green and Janice Hunt by 6-1, 6-1, 6-0, and over Anna Tickle and Esther Pettit by 6-1, 6-2, 6-2.

Liz Parks played her first-ever Winter League match, but with Ann Short went down 6-2, 6-4, 6-4 to Joan Williams and Chanelle Belcher.

Joan Kelcey and Tania Belcher faced an improved performance from Carol Lyons and Lisa Clifton, but won 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.

Meanwhile, Liz Roe and Michelle Cooke beat Jean Smith and Liz Gill 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 in Division A.

Also going well were Sue Gale and Pat Hexter in a 6-2, 6-1, 6-5 win against Joan McGregor and Helen Foote.

In an all-Saltash Mixed Doubles, Pat and Jane Poon beat Chris and Gill Cansfield 6-1, 6-3, 6-0.

The Cansfields then went down 6-0, 6-2, 6-0 to one of the leading pairs, Andrew Leigh and Annabel Norman.

There was a cracking match when the Poons beat Dudley Tolkien and Janet Butler 6-5 (9-7), 6-5 (7-5), 6-3.

Despite feeling unwell, Ming Dai partnered Sue Peers-Jones but found Mike and Helen Foote too good by 6-2, 6-0, 6-0.

In an earlier match, after leading in a close first set, the Footes fell away and lost 6-5, 6-2, 6-0 to Dan Stones and Joan Williams, who then won their fourth match with a 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 win over Chris Shorter and Lisa Clifton.
