Kambouris' team entertain Division Two high-fliers London Met

Friday, November 21, 2008, 07:00

PLYMOUTH Raiders II face back-to-back tests in Division Two of the EBL this weekend.

Coach Tom Kambouris' 2-1 team visit 0-4 Birmingham tomorrow (6.15pm) before entertaining 4-0 high-fliers London Met at the Mayflower on Sunday (3pm).

Raiders are coming off a heavy 99-62 defeat at Leeds last weekend, but have added 6ft 5in swingman Jay Marriott to their roster this week.

Marriott, 27, was signed from top-flight Irish club, Cork. However, Raiders II were still awaiting both his international clearance from Cork and EB registration to go through last night.

Kambouris, who is 'hopeful' Marriott will be clear to play, said: "We've had good practices this week and if we carry that into the weekend, I like our chances.

"I don't know much about Birmingham, but London Met are very quick, organised and have a good squad. They're one of the favourites for promotion."

London Met's average winning margin in Division Two this season is 34.8 points.

Admission to Sunday's game at the Mayflower is priced £3 adults, £2 concessions – and free for Raiders' season ticket holders.

Plymouth Marjon Cannons will try and kick-start their season with a home win over Leicester on Sunday (4pm).

Coach George Hatchell, who has recruited Jean Wakanena from Raiders II, is confident his 0-3 side will start winning soon.

He said: "We have started the season playing the top teams, so it's been tough.

"But I'm confident we've got the quality, who, man for man, can give anybody a game.

"Teams are being tipped for promotion already, but I think it's a little early for that."

Cannons are without inspirational centre Deng Deng until Christmas.

Hatchell said: "There's no doubt any team would miss a player of Deng's stature and presence.

"But our players are focussed and we've got to start winning soon."

Meanwhile, winless Cannons II (0-6) visit 3-2 Bognor in Division Four tomorrow (7pm).

Admission to Cannons games at Marjons this season is £4 adults, £2 concessions and £10 for a family of four (two adults and two children).
