Stronach waits on injured duo
Tuesday, November 18, 2008, 07:00
Assistant coach and key forward DeAntoine Beasley suffered a knock on his metatarsal during Raiders' hard-earned 74-65 victory at Milton Keynes Lions on November 9.
Scans have shown there is no break and Beasley will be working with physiotherapists to try and repair the problem before Saturday's match-up at the Pavilions.
Perhaps of more concern is the injury to club captain Gavin Love, who has been on the inactive list since Raiders' 83-79 victory against Guildford Heat on October 25.
Love has bounced back this season after suffering a long-term Achilles injury in April 2007.
There is no suggestion Love is injured to anywhere near that extent.
He turned his ankle during the Heat game and while scans have shown no break, Love is suffering from ligament damage.
The point guard has now missed three matches and is itching to get back into action.
But Stronach is refusing to risk his men on court until they're ready and fully recovered from injury.
He said: "Hopefully, Gavin will be all right for Newcastle – with DeAntoine, it's a matter of the physios working on it.
"We always want to be at full strength, but we're not going to rush them back.
"We have had a couple of weeks away from competitive matches and in a way, it's been a Godsend."
Raiders have not been taking a holiday despite the fact they have not been playing competitive matches.
They have been working hard in practice to prepare for their return to action this weekend.
Raiders embark on what could be a season-defining 10 days on Saturday with a highly-charged clash with BBL champions Newcastle Eagles at the Pavilions.
Eagles slipped to 7-2 over the weekend, which puts 6-3 Raiders right back in the title race.
On Sunday, Raiders are at Guildford Heat for the first-leg of their BBL Cup semi-final.
They play the return second-leg at the Pavilions on Wednesday, November 26.
