Friday, November 21, 2008, 09:42

CHILDREN from Oldway Primary School 'felt like celebrities' as they opened the new Tesco store in Preston, Paignton, yesterday.

The new store was opened by 11-year-old Ruth Wootten and other members of the school council.

Tesco donated £500 to Oldway Primary School to celebrate the opening of the store.

School headteacher Pete Maunder, said: "We were pleased to respond to Tesco's invite to attend the opening and pleased to accept the cheque from them.

"Six children from the school council went along.

"The school council has its own budget and the cheque will be added to its budget.

"The council will then decide what the money is spent on.

"The children were delighted to be involved in the opening of the new Tesco store.

"They enjoyed having a look around the store and they loved the chocolate donuts they were given as a treat.

"They felt like celebrities opening it up."

The new branch in Torquay Road is now open seven days a week from 6am to 11pm.

There will be a bakery, self-service tills and a free cash machine on site.
