Gather round for folk world pedigree

Friday, November 21, 2008, 11:00

THE heritage of The Gathering is like a Who's Who of the folk world with a line-up drawn from the genre's most influential bands coming together to celebrate their common musical journey.

There's Jerry Donahue (Fairport Convention, Fotheringay, Sandy Denny, Ralph McTell) on guitars; Rick Kemp (Steeleye Span, Michael Chapman) on bass and vocals; Clive Bunker (Jethro Tull, Pentangle, Gordon Giltrap) on drums; Ray Jackson (Lindisfarne) on mandolin, harmonica and vocals; and Doug Morter (Magna Carta, Hunter-Muskett, The Albion Band) on guitars and vocals.

Jerry's daughter Kristina Donahue, joins the band on vocals.

Following their UK tour last year and a fantastic performance at Cropredy this year, the band return to the UK circuit, with the first fruits of their German recording sessions – an EP – available now at their gigs.

The Gathering are performing at The Pig's Nose Inn, East Prawle, Kingsbridge (01548 511209) on Saturday, November 29 and at The Drewe Arms, Drewsteignton (01647 281224) on Sunday, November 30. Support comes from Jonathan Ash and Amy Barton
