Mourning a versatile actor

Monday, November 23, 2009, 11:00

IT was sad to read of the death of that fine actor Edward Woodward. Who can forget his performance in the excellent spy series Callan, and in The Equalizer, which was filmed in the United States.

Also his portrayal of the puritanical police sergeant in The Wicker Man, which has become a cult horror movie. Mr Woodward also possessed a fine singing voice.

The 79-year-old actor, who had been suffering from a number of illnesses for some years, and was last seen in EastEnders, showed how versatile he was, and why he will be a great loss to the film and TV world.

He was married – his second marriage – to that excellent actress Michelle Dotrice.

RIP Edward – you will be missed.
