Four repay society with path clean-up
FOUR men sentenced by a court to do community work have cleared up a rubbish-strewn footpath.
The path next to Marshall Drive in Ivybridge was littered with old car tyres, discarded take-away food trays, bottles, drinks cans and other rubbish.

The men were ordered to do the clean-up under the Community Payback Scheme, which is used to punish offenders without imposing a prison term.
Supervised by the Probation Service, the four spent the morning clearing rubbish from about 300 yards alongside the footpath.
South Hams District Council provided litter pickers, rubbish bags and collected the filled bags at the end of the clean-up.
Ian Hosking, street scene manager for South Hams District Council, said: "The council hopes to arrange further projects like this."

“Why on earth aren't we locking our criminals up then bringing them out during the day to do these jobs. Insufficient crime deterrents!”
