Quick back in time for away cup game at Redruth Albany

Friday, November 21, 2008, 07:00

OLD Techs face the unknown at Redruth Albany tomorrow in the second round of the EDF Junior Vase.

Spokesman Sean Bedford-Smith said: "I've been watching their results over the past few weeks and they seem to have been a bit up and down.

"They go and put 70-odd points past Lankelly-Fowey, who are top of the league, then they draw with St Day, who are near the bottom."

Techs are boosted by the return of long-term injury victims Gary Quick (10 weeks out with a snapped tendon in a finger) and Derek Ingleson (six weeks with broken ribs).

OPMs coach Howard Turner has doubled his team's training sessions ahead of a vital Cornwall/Devon clash.

The club's first team are without a game this weekend, but face Plymouth Albion Oaks the following Saturday.

Turner said: "The turn-out for training on Tuesday was disappointing – it was because the first team didn't have a game.

"Next week, we are going to have two sessions a week. We need a good performance against Oaks."

Meanwhile, OPMs Jesters are at Devonport Services for a Lockie Cup clash (2.30pm).

OPMs: P Hague, J Eastbury, Alex Smith, G Davies, D Turner, T Hyatt, D Mullan, J Charlick, W Davenport, T Binding, N Grey, O Dolbey-Glover, J Hemmingway, L Owen, G Williams. Reps: J Stansfield, J Ruddock, J Jeffrey, C Bradley, D Wilding, P Cook.

COACH Mike Freeman won't be going easy on his team just because they are without an official match tomorrow.

Devon Two outfit DHSOB were to face Cornwall/Devon team Saltash at Stonehouse Creek (2.30pm) until the Ashes pulled out, which would have been a considerable challenge for the home side.

Now DHSOB are hoping to arrange a game with Plymouth Argaum, although they were not sure if they will be playing at home.

Freeman said: "I think we're underperforming and the players need to toughen up.

"We've got some tough games coming up, including Plymouth Barbarians in the Lockie Cup, so we need to get used to it.

"We were in Devon One for seven years before we came down and personally, I don't want to stay in Devon Two any longer than I have to."

SALTASH seconds are away to their counterparts at St Austell.
