IT'S curtain up for a history of one of Plymouth's busiest and oldest theatre companies.

Tamaritans member Chris Hunt has written and published the account covering over 75 years of the group, which he has served as chairman and vice-president.

The book includes memories of the Tamaritans' activities before and during World War Two by Irene Jeffery, playwright, actress and producer, who died earlier this year aged 103.

Every production in the company's history is listed and there is a chapter covering many of the city's theatres that have a Tamaritans connection.

The Tamaritans Theatre Company – Plymouth, a History 1931-2007 costs £6 and is available from Chris (01752 661402) or from South West Image Bank, 32 Looe Street.

Copies will also be available in the Theatre Royal near the entrance of the Drum during the run of the Tamaritans' next show, The Woman Who Cooked Her Husband, from January 20-24.
