AS A member of St Michael's Church for more than 50 years it saddens me to find The Friends of Devonport Park no longer wish us to conduct a Christian service at the memorial in Devonport Park on November 11.

This we have done for many years starting with just a handful of St Michael's congregation. Now that almost 200 attend we are informed our vicar is no longer wanted to preach the Gospel there.

I thought we were a Christian nation, never did I think that in this country we would have what I can only describe as persecution of our faith and forbidden to preach the Gospel.

A very sad pensioner.

no call out fee and no fee to price a job its free,

“Niug said- 'Here we have the ex archbishop of Canterbury trying to claim people who oppose gay marriage are treated as badly as Jews in the holocaust..words fail me........and you people wonder why so many are turning against you?'..

You atheists take things too seriously mate, you're like wagons without springs, jolted by every pebble on the road..:)
Look it's gone midnight so why don't you relax, personally I'm going to play some Abba vids fullscreen and print off a full-size pic of Agnetha Faltskog's sweet face for my bedside table..:)”

“changing the theme before charlie takes over and ruins yet another debate, This gave me a chuckle earlier and is a perfect example of the lengths christians are going to these days to claim discrimination http://tinyurl.com/92sede5

“..niug said- 'im not being dragged into one of ur pathetic little troll wars'..

A wise decision mate, you obviously remember the last good hiding I gave you in a religious debate..:) Tell him Rocky-
"C'mon, it's true, but that don't bother me, I just wanna prove somethin',I ain't no bum, it don't matter if I lose, don't matter if Dodd opens my head.
The only thing I wanna do is go the distance, that's all.
Nobody's ever gone fifteen rounds with Dodd. If I go them fifteen rounds, an' that bell rings an' I'm still standin', I'm gonna know then I weren't just another bum from the neighborhood”

“Vinnie said- 'I was trying to say how the indoctrination that I, and everyone else, have been subjected to makes me automatically say C of E'..

    What 'indoctrination'?
My parents were in no way religious, in fact when me mam wouldn't give our cat a morsel from her plate i said "Jesus won't be happy with that", and she replied "I don't care what bl*ddy Jesus thinks!".
And at school we kids were taught about Jesus in RE lessons but he sounded boring and he never seemed to have much fun.”

“EyeOn said- 'nor will I ever believe that one faith alone is the way'..

But what if that one faith is the only one with the son of God in it? Surely that makes all the rest a bit like an Elvis concert without Elvis in it? Right Elv?
    "Uh-huh"”

“and TheEyeOn I have no belief.....and merely making the point that the non religious have rights as well-one of them being the right not to be exposed to other peoples religion is not `preaching` anything its just common sense.”

“..Niug said- 'are you telling me Christianity is a peaceful religion?'..

Are you serious mate? You should have been a music-hall comic..:)
"I say I say I say, which bit of this do you think is warlike?-
"Love one another, feed the hungry, house the homeless, clothe the destitute, tend the sick, visit the prisoners, look after the poor"-Jesus of Nazareth”

“`You have already stated your case and I accept that as I have stated mine, why should people of any religious belief only practice in a church, synagogue or mosque?????
Bricks and Mortar do not denominate the house of Christianity or indeed any other faith, the heart does.`

`but if the actual Memorial is in a Public place, then why not the Service??????"`

Because the actual memorial is not a biased ceremony pertaining to one religion ignoring the rights of all others attending the memorial who may not wish to be exposed to religious ceremony!

You seem to be obsessed with the rights of the religious ignoring the rights of the non religious not to be exposed to your religion! now why doesn't that surprise me? If there is no ulterior motive to expose and convert people to your religion then why is it such a big deal to just hold your service in your church? Surly if your service is just simply to remember the war dead then it does not matter where you hold it?

and as for your point `why NOW, after 50 years of Tradition have they decided they are no longer welcome????`

because in the modern age people are generally more secular and less willing to put up with religion being forced upon them, public events are a big part of this, its called social progress and if the church continues to try and force itself upon people who want no part of it then they will simply encourage more resentment towards themselves.”
