Have your say on parking in Tavistock
People are being encouraged to share their ideas about how traffic and parking could be managed in Tavistock in the future.
Residents, businesses and visitors are all invited to have their say at a drop-in event at Tavistock Town Hall on Wednesday, October 24 between 12pm and 7pm.
A variety of topics are up for discussion including parking restrictions, traffic control measures, residents’ parking, season tickets, bicycle parking, park & ride, sign de-cluttering and car sharing.
The event has been organised by a group which is looking into the future of traffic management in Tavistock and includes representatives from Devon County Council, West Devon Borough Council, Tavistock Town Council, local businesses and the emergency services.

Getting these issues right is crucial for a town like Tavistock with its World Heritage Status. I think it’s really important as many people as possible have their say so we can come up with the best possible solutions.”

“Foldart, the bus starts at the city centre, but one goes via milehouse, the other two go via mutley, then everywhere inbetween. So, most people would need one bus, that equals no parking fee, and no hassle. Money well spent I would have thought. Oh, and FoldART, I know what the story is about, I was giving an alternative view so that people who don't know about the bus can look it up.”

“The yanks have these parking spaces utilised in order that every square meter of space is used. Cars are placed on top of each other on ramps, a bit like the car transporters that drive around. Perhaps this is what is needed in future. We need to utilise space!”

“@Trudie2010 - And, I suppose the bus goes from the city centre? So that's 2 buses...and a lot of money. This article was about parking in Tavistock, not bus-hopping.”

“Devonview, Sorry, Plymouth. But that should free up the parking for people coming from the more rural areas.”

“Tavistock needs a bypass! I go there every week and usually go via residentail Whitchurch to avoid the continual traffic jam along Plymouth Road and the Tavistock Square.
Locals have to realise that some people want to get through Tavistock without stopping.”

“There is a bus to Tavistock every 20 minutes during the week, and hourly on Sundays and bank holidays, so parking shouldn't be too much of an issue.”

“The only thing stopping me from visiting Tavistock is the lack of parking facilities.”
