Taking those first steps though onto the property ladder though can seem daunting – juggling high house prices against what seems like unattainable deposits.
"Before owning my new home I had rented in the local area.
"It has been stressful at times as I've never had the peace of mind to know that I can stay in one place.
"I wanted the stability for me and my family from having our own home," said Mrs Newton.
Mrs Newton found out about shared ownership through South West Homes, the Homebuy agent for the South West.
The Devon & Cornwall Housing sales team supported Mrs Newton and her family every step of the way to owning a own home.
"Mrs Newton was unsure if she could get onto the property ladder and we were able to show her that she could in fact purchase a 40 per cent share of the property, with a subsidised rent payable on the unsold equity at this fantastic scheme," said Mary Bradley, Sales Adviser at Devon & Cornwall Housing.
Mrs Newton's home at Foulston Avenue benefits from PV (photovoltaic panels) which help should help Wendy and her family reduce electricity bills.
Mrs Newton and her family now have a secure and stable future in their new home. "I love it here," said Mrs Newton "It's a really lovely modern house; we're looking forward to what the New Year brings for us as in this house and being here for a very long time."
