SEVEN pre-schools catering for service families will be reopening under a collective name today.

The facilities across the city will be called Jack and Jill's Childcare.

They predominantly provide childcare to service families, many of which have a parent or both parents deployed on operations.

All of the sites, which are Ofsted registered, come under the umbrella of the Royal Naval Pre-school Learning Organisation – a registered charity that has been operating for forty years.

Area coordinator, Jo Jenkins, said: "Until now the pre-school settings have operated under different area names so Jack and Jill's will be easily recognised and parents know we offer quality childcare throughout the city."

On Friday, Commodore Graeme Little OBE ADC RN, who recently assumed responsibility as Devonport Naval Base Commander, will open the newest of the Jack and Jill's childcare centres at Goosewell school in Plymstock.

This will join the other six sites: Crownhill, Eggbuckland , Radford, Torpoint, Widewell and Plympton.

Sarah Pile, manager of the Goosewell site, said: "I am very excited about the opening of the new Goosewell branch of Jack and Jill's, it is an extension of wider opportunities to work cooperatively within the local community and the local schools.

"The potential it will offer the children and their families is inspiring."

Spare spaces are available to civilian families.
