Hendry set for vital test at Pavilions
Wednesday, October 22, 2008, 07:00
Seven-times world champion Hendry faces Perry in the opening clash of the night, while reigning world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan meets Steve Davis in the other match, broadcast live on Sky.
Both matches are over six frames, with two points for a win and a point for a 3-3 draw.
The top four players move forward to the big money play-offs in December.
Hendry opened this season's Premier League campaign with a 5-1 defeat to Mark Selby in the Derby event and currently sits second from bottom in the standings.
The 39-year-old acknowledges that victory is vital tomorrow night if he is to boost his chances of reaching the semi-finals stage.
"It is important for me to get the win over Joe because you cannot afford to let any of the players get away from you," said Hendry.
"Tonight's match is going to be tough, as they all are in the competition.
"With the calibre of players taking part, there is no easy matches.
"But because I lost my first match, there is no room for error as far as I am concerned.
"You need to win at least four of the six group six matches to reach the semi-finals and having lost once already, I need to win tomorrow night."
The former six-times Premier League champion, who won the British Open in Plymouth in 1999 and last played in the city in 2005, drawing 3-3 with O'Sullivan in the Premier League group stage, added: "I am really looking forward to coming back to Plymouth to play.
"I have enjoyed reasonable success in Plymouth and there is usually always a good crowd."
