ARGYLE TO DECIDE ON LAW AND ROSA

Wednesday, August 27, 2008, 06:57

TRIALISTS Nicky Law and Denes Rosa should find out today whether they will be offered contracts by Plymouth Argyle.

Pilgrims' boss Paul Sturrock was holding talks with the two players – both central midfielders – this morning.

Law and Rosa, a Hungarian international, played for Argyle reserves when they beat Exeter City 3-0 in a Pontin's Holidays Combination clash at Home Park yesterday afternoon.

And Sturrock was deciding overnight whether to add them to his squad, with the transfer window set to shut at midnight on September 1.

Law and Rosa were given permission by their clubs, Sheffield United and Wolves respectively, to play for Argyle reserves against Exeter.

Both completed the 90 minutes for the Pilgrims and Sturrock admitted he had been pleased with them.

Sturrock said: "I thought they both did okay. They tired dramatically, but I think that's with a lack of competitive games early in the season."

Rosa, 31, was formerly a team-mate of Argyle centre-back Krisztian Timar at Hungarian club Ferencvaros.

He signed for Wolves on a six-month loan from Ferencvaros in January 2006 and later signed a three-year contract with them.

But Rosa has been on the transfer list at Molineux since last summer, and played only once for Wolves last season, as a substitute in a 3-1 home defeat by Morecambe in the Carling Cup first round.

He had a one-month loan spell with Cheltenham Town last term, and made four appearances for the League One club.

Rosa almost signed for Argyle in the summer of 2005, when Bobby Williamson was the Pilgrims' boss, but the move fell through.

And, as recently as last December, Sturrock expressed interest in taking Rosa on trial, although that did not materialise in the end.

Sturrock said: "He looks an accomplished player. He made passes for the first two goals (against Exeter).

"You can see he can play, but I have got to judge whether a real hardened training regime would get him up to speed."

"I think ability-wise there's no question about him."

Law is a graduate of Sheffield United's youth academy and has played 10 matches at first team level.

He has also had loan spells with Yeovil Town and Bradford City.

The 20-year-old is the son of former Argyle defender Nicky Law, who played for the Pilgrims from March 1987 to the end of the following season.

The Blades' midfielder trained with Argyle on Monday but Rosa only arrived yesterday morning.

Sturrock said: "They worked very hard for the team and did what they were asked to do, which I like.

"I will think about it overnight, meet the two of them tomorrow and make a decision. It will be a 'yes' or 'no'. There is no time now to mess around."

Sturrock is busy behind the scenes trying to add further players to his squad before the transfer window shuts. The need has been highlighted by Argyle's poor start to the season, which has seen them pick up only one point from the first three Championship matches.

Sturrock said: "The chairman (Paul Stapleton) and I spent two-and-a-half hours on the phone on Monday afternoon to all sorts of people.

"It's ongoing, and I'm sure there will be other fresh things come out the trees later in the week."

Sturrock confirmed there had been no offers so far for transfer-listed Wales international striker Jermaine Easter, who wants to leave Argyle for personal reasons.

Meanwhile, Sunderland centre-back Russell Anderson has signed for Burnley on a season-long loan.

Anderson was borrowed by Argyle last term and played 14 league games for them.

Herald Sport revealed last week that Sturrock had made an unsuccessful attempt to bring Anderson back to Home Park on a season-long loan.

Burnley are thought to have paid Sunderland a loan fee for Anderson, on top of his substantial weekly wage.

Anderson could make his Championship debut for Burnley against Argyle at Turf Moor this Saturday.
