Arscott tips ex-side for play-offs

LUKE ARSCOTT believes Plymouth Albion can finish the season in a promotion play-off place after helping Bristol to a 33-8 Championship win over his former club on Saturday.

Arscott enjoyed a memorable day on his first return to Brickfields since leaving Plymouth.

He was sin-binned on 52 minutes for a professional foul before he returned to the action to score his side's fourth try of five in the 70th minute.

Bristol's win leaves them second in the standings while Albion's defeat, their third at home this season and seventh overall, sees them sitting just one off the bottom.

"I think Plymouth are always going to be in with a shout of winning games, especially at home," said Arscott.

"It is not a very nice place to come and play rugby and I think Dawesy (Graham Dawe) likes to make this a bit of a fortress.

"I think if they can just pick up their home form then they should get into that top eight."

Bristol's victory on Saturday was their eighth win this term – only Exeter and Doncaster have beaten them.

Arscott said he and his team-mates were pleased to have recorded a victory at Brickfields, but he did admit that Plymouth have proved tough opposition.

Bristol led 12-3 at the interval despite Albion playing the better rugby with skipper Kieran Hallett missing three penalties.

"We started a bit slowly and had they kicked their kicks in the first half, then it may have been a different story," said Arscott. "But we are pleased to have come out and scored five tries and got the bonus point.

"Coming away from Plymouth with a bonus point is not easy, especially with the way Plymouth got their (31-25) win against Nottingham the previous week.

"We were expecting a really tough game and in the first 40 minutes we got that. We should have gone in at the break level at 12-12, really.

"But second half we put in a good defensive display, with some good attacking skills, to claim the win."
