Friday, July 04, 2008, 12:34

A FORMER Argyle striker has been ordered to pay £2,450 after admitting he struck a doorman with his girlfriend’s handbag.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake pleaded guilty to two charges following an incident outside the Candy Store on November 11, 2007.

Plymouth Crown Court heard how an incident inside the club between Ebanks-Blake and his friends and another group over a spillage of drink, quickly developed.

Ebanks-Blake was “forcibly” ejected from the premises where upon his girlfriend appeared to react with a great deal of enthusiasm according to Judge Francis Gilbert.

It was initially thought Ebanks had then struck a doorman over the head with a bottle. However close scrutiny of CCTV found he had instead picked up his girlfriend’s handbag and used it to strike the doorman.

He also admitted to punching a doorman but causing no injury.

Ebanks-Blake who now plays for Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers was said to earn £8,250 per week as a striker.

Judge Francis Gilbert QC fined Ebanks £1,000 for the charge of actual bodily harm, £300 for the public order charge, ordered to pay £500 compensation to the doorman he injured, and pay £650 prosecution costs.
