New Racing beginning for Williams in Renault Series at Silverstone

Saturday, July 04, 2009, 07:00

TEENAGED racer Jordan Williams is hoping to revive his stalled career at Silverstone this weekend.

The Tavistock Community College student has been struggling with results this season in the Formula Renault UK series.

But Williams has been snapped up by a top racing outfit for the Renault World Series – which incorporates Formula Renault – for this weekend's action.

Williams has been struggling with a lack of sponsors since he burst onto the motor-racing scene, with a string of impressive performances in the Ginetta 'mini sports car' series more than two years ago.

He has also recently backed off from committing himself to too much racing because of exams.

Williams, however, said he had managed to attract new sponsors.

Now he has been added to highly-rated Mark Burdett Racing's stable – although possibly on a short-term basis.

Williams, who has also battled with a lack of pace caused by uncompetitive cars, said the offer was a great opportunity.

Lincolnshire-based Mark Burdett's drivers have already won a race this season through Finnish driver Jesse Krohn.

Williams said: "Fingers crossed, I'll manage to get a result from the weekend.

"The Renault World Series is awesome and it's a great opportunity for me to be able to take part in it. I took part in some of the Formula Renault rounds at Thruxton and Donington and my results were okay, but not really good enough.

"Then I had to have a break because of my exams, which all went really well.

"Sadly, we weren't getting anywhere with the team we were originally with, so, hopefully, things will go well this weekend."
