That means that as well as visiting the site from your desktop or laptop, you can also visit from your mobile phone or tablet.

When you visit thisisplymouth.co.uk on your mobile device it should now ask you if you want to see the mobile or 'full' desktop version – or depending on your device it may just take you straight to the mobile version.

If you don't get there straight away, you can instead go to m.thisisplymouth.co.uk to get the news in a quick, smart, straighforward format designed to work well on mobile devices.

The Herald and thisisplymouth Digital Publisher Neil Shaw said: "It has never been easier to access all the latest news and information in Plymouth on the go – whatever device you have whether it is an iPad, iPhone, Blackberry or Windows Mobile you will be able to visit m.thisisplymouth.co.uk and instantly get updated."

The home page of the mobile site gives you quick access to the news and sports channels – where everything happening in Plymouth, including content from The Herald, is updated 24 hours a day seven days a week.

There are also sections of the mobile site for the latest weather forecasts, jobs, homes, motors and links to our business directory where you can find local businesses – rated and reviewed by people in the city.

The mobile site also shows you the latest comments, pictures and what's on information and well as family notices.

Neil said: "The mobile site has all the core elements of the main site in a format that is easy to use on the go – and it is being constantly updated and improved so look out for even more innovations in the weeks and months ahead."

“Some of us work out and about Boris, not tied to a desk (all the time anyway).

If it saves me buying a paper then hey.”

“Will the mobile site be as badly designed as this one?”

“Bring back the old Herald site - this 'new' layout is one of the worst I've ever come across for user-friendliness. Old articles are bumped to the top of the list as soon as soon as someone comments on them. It's confusing and irritating in equal measure.”

“The Herald's main site is so slow today that it would actually be quicker to go out and buy the damned paper than wait for a page to load. Is this Editor Boy's latest desperate attempt to flog copies of his comic, or does he just not have the budget to upgrade his server from dial-up to broadband?”

“Would this me the same m.thisisplymouth.co.uk that I've been re-directed to for the past few weeks?

The one which gives you a list of topics across the top (a, news, b sport etc.) a Y and a Q, a text size choice, and a list of topics along the bottom to choose from (news, weather, etc) but doesn't appear to be able to show anything else?

Yes, it does appear to be. I'm using a Nokia Lumia, so neither archaic or state of the art but it won't display any articles.

The mobile site does work well on a PC though - possibly better than the main site?”

“Great. Now, how about sorting this site out. Then perhaps Internet Explorer wouldn't keep shutting it down every five minutes.”

“No doubt it will be full of poor journalism, spelling mistakes, poor punctuation and grammar. Articles that dumb down its readership. Does nothing to create a positive image of the city to a visitor. It will be full of adverts that nobody really wants to read.

I guess that it won't be long before The Herald is printed weekly not that I pay for a poor quality item. I guess this is what happens when your parent company owns the "Daily Fail" preaching ignorance and discrimination on a daily basis and removing peoples right to the freedom of speech!”

You'd think that mobiles had only just been invented!

Great to see the Herald with their finger on the pulse.”
