'A warning to other clubs'
LEAD investigator Det Insp Dave Huggett, above, said the
sentence was a warning to all club owners and managers to take
-

action against drugs.
He said: “Owners and managers of premises need to understand
that they hold a responsibility for what occurs within their
premises, and that's a serious responsibility.
“They [Bahmanzadeh and Costelloe] did not take reasonable,
effective steps to tackle the problem. The measures available
are simple things they could've done.
Nothing changed within the club from the beginning of the
investigation to the end.
“These are certainly good sentences. The judge has made it
clear he had nothing to base it on, so he's looked at the
profitability and put it in line with other drug-dealing of
class A drugs.”

“How on earth can club bosses be expected to know if any shady drug dealing is being done on their premises?
If the police want to nail the dealers they could simply mingle with the revellers in plain clothes, not taking the easy way out by arresting club bosses.”
