I HAVE just come from re-plating my car as a private hire taxi and couldn't believe the council wasting our council tax money.

I was told the reason for new door and rear plate signs was because one department in the council wanted to change the logo.

This means all signs, letter headings, complimentary slips etc, have had to be changed.

Hundreds of thousands of pounds wasted, agreed by the top brass within the council.

All this at a time when we are told we have no money and are making many staff within the council redundant. What a waste.

For what, I asked.

Look at the signs: the old one has the lion with his tongue hanging out, the new has no tongue, why change for that?

What a waste of money.

It's not just the councillors that waste our money but the people that work at the council in high office, I know who I would make redundant. What do you say?

“If the council jobsworths want to do something useful they could paint a few lines on the road and put up a few roadsigns to warn drivers of the lethal Citadel Rd East/Friars Lane blind junction as it's only a matter of time before a vehicles coming up the narrow cobbled streets slam into one another, or hit a pedestrian.
I tipped off the council about it at the end of July (7 weeks ago) and got an acknowledgment e-mail but I see nothing's been done.”

“The renewal for a hackney licence including the payment you are now forced to pay for to prove that you havent yet been caught doing anything criminal (notice the wording ) is now £204 pounds per year . For a small plastic badge worth about a quid.
When asked why the fees are so high the answer is for maintenance of the ranks . Not a single fresh painted line has been painted on any rank for at least ten years .
The thousands of private hire drivers pay a similar amount . Perhaps it helps pay for the inflation proof pensions that these jobsworths think they deserve over the rest of us ... plus stab proof vests and all the kit supposedly needed by the taxi inspectors who think they need to look like the SAS whose staff numbers has even though taxi numbers remain the same . Most taxi drivers leave after realising they are being ripped off in all manner of ways.”

“Plymouth City Council is expert in waste management and managing to waste at all levels and in all parts of this once reasonably fair city. Yes, I do include the incinerator too!

I believe the fault truly lies with the faceless council officers who work behind the scenes regardless of which party leads the council. It is the only explanation for the consistently pointless waste of taxpayers money on schemes far too hair-brained to be created by anyone in the public gaze.

These people sit in offices far away from the practical realities of the city and spend their days hidden behind reference books dreaming up schemes like this tongue-less lion; pedestrian crossings where pedestrians cannot see the lights when they change or portaloo contingency plans for the next time travellers set up camp on central park.

I am sure someone inside the civic centre will win an award for changing the logo and avoiding so much confusion. It all beggars belief!

    Plymouth; space of waste!”

“A freind of mine who goes into renew his badge on a regular basis having been a taxi driver for 15 years and knows the girl behind the counter on a family basis ,still gets asked by her for his 6 forms of ID . The mindset of jobsworths from top to bottom is ridiculous .”

“Send the council the bill for the change, and perform a small claims action - only NEW and RENEW should be charged the cost, and the older ones IF THE COUNCIL WANTS CONSISTANCY then they should pay for it. - Likewise stationary - after all its otherwise waste.”
