Driver wedges lorry under bridge
A LORRY driver got his giant truck wedged in a narrow country lane between Shaugh Prior and Clearbrook after a sat nav blunder apparently led him down the wrong route.
The heavy goods vehicle was spotted by a cyclist who photographed it on his mobile phone as he passed by on the bridge above on Monday afternoon.
It appears that the driver, who is thought to be German, had passed a warning road sign and gone up the narrow country lane and became wedged on a corner.
He managed to get free with the help of a recovery truck, and the lorry suffered damage to the cab and the mirrors.
He tried to reverse the vehicle back down the road, before eventually
turning the vehicle back around.
Witness Debbie Hill, 48, said: “I would only have thought it would be
sat-nav because I can’t see why a lorry that size would turn off the trunk road.
“It’s just a narrow lane. Two cars can’t even pass – they can’t even turn
around it’s that narrow. It’s only a road that locals would use.”

A satellite navigation system was blamed for causing a lorry to get stuck in South East Cornwall. Filmed November 10, 2007.

“Richard Clearbrook "I bet you an one as well." I could correct you on your use of the English language as well, but I won't
You couldn't be further from the truth when you suggest that I am a lorry driver, I am a 65 year old grandparent just back from a stint of baby sitting, and have never driven a lorry in my life :)”

“I love these SatNav incidents. A mate wrote off a classic Jag by driving into 2 feet of river flow, bleating that his virtual navigator told him to go straight on! ;-}
Wozzat? I hate the use of that word "community" to try to give credibility to a weak argument. There ain't no "community" like there ain't no society, like Maggie told us. The only way we will get us back to like what we was in the good old days like what we all remember innit, will be to do something about it, like. Axe yourself this, is there another way? No there ain't.
Trust me, I'm a Scouser.”

“Clearly not a "sat nav blunder" as reported but a driver error simple as that - "passed a warning road sign and gone up the narrow country lane". Don't blame the technology, blame the idiot using it.”
