BACON SIZE TRAGEDY

Expected bacon with my breakfast to be 7.8cm in length, but it was only 7.4cm, suffice to say the whole experience tore apart my family and the holiday was ruined

Welcome to The Duke of Cornwall Hotel, Plymouths original character hotel. A treasure in the heart of Devons city-by-the-sea.

Built by Honest John Pethick in 1863 during the heart of the golden age of steam travel by rail and sea, The Duke of Cornwall Hotel was the citys first luxury hotel and gateway to the West Country.

Long before the boutique hotel was invented, The Duke of Cornwall Hotel was famous for its individuality and grand design. The Victorian vogue for elegance and extravagant proportion has left us with a breathtaking legacy.

Tower and turret bedrooms, sweeping staircases and ballrooms adorned with glittering chandeliers, oak panels and elaborate ceiling roses all complete with sea and cityscape views capture the elegance and spirit of the hotels heritage.

We are proud to continue many traditions, including excellent service, focused and attentive staff who provide an unparalleled commitment to you and your guests. We believe that attention to detail never goes out of style.

Wedding Day memories should be treasured and reflected upon happily in years to come, and The Duke of Cornwall Hotel is the perfect venue to guarantee a memorable occasion

So whether you are planning a wedding breakfast for a small party of guests or organising a large gathering including a civil ceremony, our dedicated Wedding Co-ordinator is on hand to help.

The wide Victorian staircase provides the ideal setting for photographs while your guests relax in the oak panelled lounge before moving into the reception. The Ballroom boasts superb interior decor and furnishings with magnificent chandeliers, computerised scene setting, air conditioning, bar facilities and platform stage. Also available is the Hayward Room and the Fleur de Lys Suite, this suite is ideal for the smaller wedding, providing you with lavish surroundings and modern amenities.

Excellent food and wine, both traditional and more exotic give you a wide choice. The food ranges from simple buffets to elegant banquets, and all can be tailored to suit individual taste. The hotel is proud to be awarded with both an AA Rosette and 2 RAC Blue Riband for Fine Dining.

A selection of Honeymoon Rooms are available to complete your day. These include Four Poster beds, one of which boasts a jacuzzi bath. In addition, we are proud to have the exclusive Reynolds Tower Suite with views encompassing the waterfront and City of Plymouth. All of these rooms have all been designed to ensure that your stay with us is a memorable one.

    Enjoyable stay

“I stayed at this beautiful hotel after my wedding reception and really enjoyed it. The room was great and the rest of the hotel was very plush. Breakfast was good too. Not cheap, but worth it if you want a treat or are gonig to a gig or watching basketball”

    Needs a refurb

“I found this hotel to be dated and old fashioned. It was cold and the staff were not very helpful. The rooms were compact and lacked the usual amenities that most hotels nowadays have.”

    Beautiful Hotel

“Though not the cheapest hotel in Plymouth it is definately worth the extra money to stay in such luxurious surroundings. The hotel itself is a beautiful building and has excellent views from the rooms.”
